FULL INTERVIEW: Anthony Barnett on his new Brexit book

An EU apologetic, it's not just Britain that is disgruntled with the EU, so are many other countries in the EU. Notice he never mentions the masses of immigration into Europe, that is one of the biggest problems in the EU.

Superb questions Oliver! You totally skewered Barnett on his patenty absurd claim that it would be possible for Boris to go and lobby in Paris. Then you got him to claim that federalism wouldn't come about if the people of Europe don't want it - after he had just accepted that the Lisbon treaty was forced through against the will of the people. Can he not see that after a Remain vote it would be USofE full steam ahead? How doesn't he understand that Brexit was seen by many as our last chance to push back on that? Does he really think it is possible for democracy of the quality required to, say, PREVENT war, existing amongst people without a common mother-tongue or geography? (The official languages of the EU: Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Irish, Italian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Maltese, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish.) Can he be blinded by sheer fear of ostracism? or his loathing of the English perhaps?

Here's what this old-bag doesn't understand: the entire UK, and not just England had to be deindustrialised as part of joining the Common Market, which was just fine by Thatcher the Milk Snatcher. In a federal Europe, there was no need for two competing industrial powers. http://news.bbc.co.uk/local/wear/hi/people_and_places/history/newsid_8185000/8185050.stm If the Scots and the Welsh have been feeling less comfortable, it is because the EU encourages the rule of regions. Although, when the Catalans really bought into that, it shied away from recognising them as a nation!

Barnett takes global platform monopolies as god given and inevitable. Corporate plunder to be tolerated as a "natural law". Pathetic!

Listning to Barnett closing thought make me wonder whether he is poorely informed or corrupt. He has no idea how national and EU governance works and they should work.

I do not mind different oppinions, Anthony does not agree with the facts. EU does not even have a consistent democratic organizational structure, hence serves the oligarchy and not the people.

Anthony is neither poorly informed nor corrupt, he may simply disagree with you.

Is Barnett realy a Labour compatible thinker?

Anthony is rather naive about the nature of EU. Have you heard of BIS, Basel, about Robert Mundel, the "Father" of Euro? And praising Varoufakis who is the Wall Street apprentice?

Reverse brexit? See. You're an idiot. You still don't get it. The reason we want brexit is to get rid of idiots like you.

Breakdown? Nope. You got it bass ackward. What's broken down is our patience with the entitled political crowd who have failed to understand the electorate again and again. They felt they could use polls and propaganda to lie to us and placate, cajole and propagandise us to vote for what THEY want instead of what WE want. And the EU is the cherry on the cake that gets baked at our expense and loss. You thought it "might" happen? I predicted it WOULD happen (brexit). I also predicted a Trump presidency by the way, for which I paid by being told I was not welcome in the staff room where I work. And I never even expressed a view about Trump. Merely predicted he would win. .... Your book is clearly the cogitation of someone who doesn't understand the situation, TRYING to understand. Well that may be an interesting study of the psychology of the establishment. But that's all. Our complete loathing of the likes of Clinton (LOCK HER UP) (and they mean that btw) seems to befuddle you The EU are not the solution, they are the fucking problem. That's why we fired them. You want to dismiss us or categorise and hence tame us by calling us "populist". It won't work. We've been patient and the patience has finished. Wait till we oust Merkel next. She's next. Then Makron when the French see how empty he is. He is just establishment continuity. He'll go next. Trump will get a second term because he's an action man and loathes the snivelling resisters. He'll sack half of those halfwits hopefully.
