Voyager 2 is what got me into astronomy as a kid. This makes me incredibly proud.

Maybe a dumb question...but I wonder why we don't launch another one with today's technology?I would assume we can could probably catch voyager 2 and surpass it fairly quick..(as far as space/time goes)

It's mostly a planetary alignment as why it would be very hard or impossible to catch up

@Tom Saenz NASA most certainly does share their tech with us. Smartphones, wifi, video conferencing, memory foam, ect...the list is pretty long. NASA does alot behind the scenes and if it's secret its to prevent our nation's enemies from obtaining equal tech status. People are so afraid of the term TOP SECRET. But as a military veteran, I can tell you that it is absolutely nessesary and ultimately in the best interest of the American people.

I just wish NASA would share those technological achievements with us...we don't really know what they are up to, do we?

Lets hear it for really good cooling helping to extend the life of a computer. I've heard it's cold enough they're slightly worried about the remaining fuel freezing. I have no idea how they get mag tape to work at that temperature (like 3 degrees > absolute zero).
