普段の料理用チャンネルを作りました。^ ^ Hey everyone, thank you for watching my video! Sorry if I confused anyone with multiple channels! This channel is for more unedited, laid-back cooking vlogs where I make general everyday meals. The reason I have this on a new channel is because some people prefer the type of content on Jun’s Kitchen and aren’t interested in vlogs, so uploading these lower quality videos to Jun’s Kitchen is not good for that channel.

I have some of those silicone food storage bags, and I found that the only way to wash them is: fill them halfway with hot water and dish soap, slide on the closure bar, then shake, shake shake, and rinse. Also, when they first arrived, the closure bars would not slide easily off and on, so I put a small amount of oil on the "entry" end of the bar and they slide easily now. Overall, I like them, but they are hard to store. Maybe I'll empty a drawer for them.

It’s kinda weird how you make your cats smell your food either before you use it or before you eat it. Cats carry so many diseases and germs and so do their fur, putting food you eat that close to their noses and mouths is not at all sanitary.

He does that so they won't jump on the table to smell it themselves. It's not super sanitary, sure, but neither is your computer or phone. I'm sure you've eaten things right after using that when you didn't think about it.

I am glad that you are making steps to reduce the use of plastic!! Don’t sweat about the ones from the store if you can’t find any alternatives as I understand that not everyone can find unpackaged fruits and vegetable. It’s really up to the vendors themselves not the customers. Let’s hope Japan as a whole would reduce plastic usage. I also found a lot of comments talkings about how good Japan’s recycling system is as if that means people can just use as many plastic as possible and Jun being more conscious is somehow ridiculous and unnecessary. First of all not all plastic can be recycled, and most of them can’t be recycled more than once. It has nothing to do with who good your system is, it’s just the material itself. Second, recycling still takes up resources and is still polluting the environment, it’s a last resort not a solution. Third and most importantly, producing plastic itself is very polluting and resource intensive, the best way is to not use them in the first place. And Japan is one for the worst in over-packaging, that a problem that Japanese themselves is aware of. Just because they have a good recycling system doesn’t mean over-consumption of plastic isn’t a big problem in itself. Stop trying to picture Japan as this perfect country with no room to improve, you people are really slowly the progress with this nonsense

As others have said, reducing waste is the most important thing, but you still need to understand what is actually happening to your waste, regardless of how much we consume. Japan is a small country, with a huge population. Risk of infection from viruses and cross contamination are a massive concern for cities that are more densely populated than what we see in the US. I can understand the concern for plastic covered produce, but that plastic still adds a barrier between the average grocery shopper who may sneeze on it before you buy (or touch it with dirty hands) and you. It also allows the produce to stay slightly fresher due to the barrier, since the produce will not oxidize as quickly, and it will retain more moisture. I don't know how effective it is exactly, but even in the US, most people still use plastic produce bags to bag their own produce. Most of those end up in landfills, and even though a lot of it now days is compostable or recyclable, most consumers dob't pay attention to it. Its not very different to prepackaged produce. Also, not all plastic is equal, the seranwrap we use to prepackage things here may not be the same plastic Japan uses, and they may have better regulations in place so that the packaging the use for it is recyclable. I don't know exactly, but it's not a farfetched idea. US recycling and Japanese recycling are completely different things. In the US, most of our plastic isn't even picked up by recycling plants, and on top of it, most of what they do pick up is then sold to third world countries to process. Most of them don't actually process it though, because there aren't regulations for it, and it ends up in the oceans and landfills because we're effectively pawning off our trash onto infrastructures that aren't capable of handling it. Even if a lot of what Japan collects isn't recycled, they have far more control over where it goes, and how its contained then anything the US does. The US claims that this happens because we don't have enough man power to sort through the waste, but Japan is proving that ridiculous. Because of their complex system, the consumer is the one who does most of the sorting and cleaning, and then the private companies handle the rest. In the US, we would just need to work on the consumer mindset, but people suck and don't want to do anything, and expect others to do it for them. We also definitely have enough people to work in recycling plants, but companies don't want to pay proper wages to the employees they would need to improve recycling. Yes, Japan burns a lot of it's plastics, but they turn that into other resources. They aren't just burning it to make it go away, but to turn it into other things, like ammonia and CO2. In Japan, the culture is structured around doing what is best for everyone, not the individual. In the US, individualism is a huge part of our culture, so we're more entitled and interested in what effects us first, rather than our neighbors or community. Obviously, Japan has it's own problems with that cultural mindset, but in this particular discussion about pollution, it's still way ahead of the game in recycling than the US will even be in the next 10 years. When it comes to top recycling though, the numbers say the Germany has the best recycling, at over 50%. How that compares to populations and materials they use or produce though, I haven't yet looked into. Really, whats is more important and complaining about how much plastic another country uses, is trying to change your own country's situation. The US mindset is terrible, it isn't just plastic that goes into the trash, but SO MUCH ELSE. But make people pay for plastic grocery bags and they lose their minds. Ask them to pay for a recycling bin, and they lose their minds. They want all of the convenience, but none of the responsibility. THAT is the discussion that needs to be happening. How do we change the mindset of 300 Million people, that don't believe in climate change or pollution?

WeiYinChan yes, I peel my green onions, lettuce, celery, and many other things that aren't peelable. I also never use fresh vegetables, only cooked, especially on salads and sandwiches. Nothing beats crispy, peeled lettuce cooked to 140 degrees. There are multiple uses for vegetables that do not include cooking or peeling. Washing your vegetables is the most important thing you can do to them, but that isn't going to prevent everything unless you are literally boiling them. We wouldn't constantly have recalls on our dirt food if that were the case. If you don't understand why a plastic is being used in the first place, you'll never find an alternative, and you'll never convince an entire country that they should stop using it just because you think it's unnecessary.

Hace 2 días
WeiYinChan

What kind of cutting board do you normally use? If it's wooden, then I'd suggest heavily oiling them when you get them, then oil them once/twice a year later. I have several wooden cutting boards (with every grade of quality, bamboo from ikea to handmade from Danish lumber), and after oiling them they stop taking in any flavours/smells (and they basically become water-resistant.) I use a mineral-oil based variant from ikea, but there is also many other variants available. (I presume that you might already know this, but I thought I would mention it anyway. Love the video :) )
