That lady gets how much? Did she say £52 a week? God bless her because i yhought it would be at least £72 a week. Can somebody ftom government come and explain how you survive on £52 a week? As a bare minimum.i get a typical monthly outlay would be :- Water bill £13 every 4 weeks Bedroom tax top up £?? Food say £35-40 week or £150 ish monthly taking into account non food essentials like soaps loo rolls washing powder hygiene products etc. Tv licence £12 Broadband mine is £37 month Insurance contents £10 Phone (old mobile) £7 month Gas and electric mines just gone up to £67 a month. How does the DWP say that £72 or £52 is the minimum you need to live on legally? My maths makes that monthly total come to £297 and bills are rising........these psyments if you are lucky to be paid at all are out of touch with cost of basic living. A basic benefit should pay and we should be able to afford £100 a week so that we can give these people a little bit ectra every month not much just enough to improve their life a tad. But the powers that be really dont listen and couldnt give a fuck if all jobseekers dropped dead overnight.

Just rebel. As citizens, it is your right to stage a revolution and remove these career politicians from power. Block roads, destroy train tracks and you'll very quickly cripple the economy and force them to step down. It's that or continue with their program of social cleansing.

Happily - unfortunately nobody else will join me because the poor are too weak from being starved to death, and those who are not on the brink of death from starvation are being pumped full of antidepressants which turns them into zombies. None of them care - they have the "I'm alright Jack" attitude, which isn't even that surprising given they are drugged up to the eyeballs on antidepressants, which doctors push at everybody in order to keep people quiet and compliant.

A cruel and corrupt benefits system carefully planned and implemented by evil, corrupt and morally bankrupt, self serving politicians who have never been anywhere near poverty and wouldn't recognise it if it leapt out from behind a bush and tore their fuckin leg off. They fraudulently take money from those most in need, they blatantly lie and worse still, ignore court orders when a it is adjudged that they have been wrong in denying benefits. It's the sickening double standards that pisses me the most. "We must end this something for nothing culture" said Ian Duncan Smith to much blue rinsed applause, totally forgetting that he was living rent free in a £3M London mansion with every bill paid for him by the hard pressed taxpayer, despite him earning a six figure salary. Instead of taking the £70 odd a week off legitimate claimants, why not demolish the real something for nothing culture that is costing the British taxpayer billions, and that is the whole concept of politician's expenses. People are being driven to despair at unjustly losing their pittance they receive in benefits, while some unelected, stale old fart can wander into the Lords and calmly pocket up to £350 simply for walking through the door. Yes Duncan Smith you facillous bastard, let's stop this culture, but let's start with the real leeches and parasites, and that is you bunch of useless, self serving bastards.

The monster ian duncan smith is clearly a psychopath, when being confronted about the drastic issues of his beloved baby monster universal credit, he laughs and dismisses it. Notice how he created the torture and then flew from the nest, giving someone else the blame and is now acting Mr goody goody. I state this as the agony and suffering at times, that this warped, unrealistic benefit system has personally caused, is perversely cruel and unjust, to the point of morbidity. The bottom line is that the DWP in parliament (with their chronic excuses) and some of their stupid, stern pseudo authoritative tyrannical, trying to prove "civil servant" puppets that do the dirty work for them, just don't give a damn as long as they are "all right Jack keep your hands off of my stack". Fact, and lets face it . I just wish that the government would be honest, have the strength to own up, that they have created a diabolical disaster that has caused suicides, but as I wrote before, they just don't give a damn.

sounds to me like PIP is basically universal credit under a different name, seems to me all the 'working poor' will be entitled to claim for 'universal credit' £52 a week. I don t know who these people voted for in the last election but some t don t vote. we must collectively vote for a labour government which will show more compassion about help. In my view the first principle of decency is that everyone should be treated as a human being. This system of Universial Credit does t allow this to happen. This is being done on purpose. The Tory government want the poor to be single and alone - because that way, they are more vulnerable and easier killed off. They have achieved that with me by falsely accusing me of having done to my abusers what they in reality did to me. I got arrested and hounded. This experience was so traumatizing that I am unable to ever have a relationship. And with this, I am alone and vulnerable - and hence can easier get abused and killed off. And that's precisely what they are doing - abusing me and trying to drive me to suicide.

The first time I experienced UC was when I'd had a temp job for six weeks and when I finished I wanted to back on JSA. They told me I couldn't go back on JSA and it had to be UC. Anyway, I made my claim and was told I had to stand the first week (COMPLETE BULLSHIT!) which is wrong!!!!!. Then I had to wait another six week for any money to be paid,so in a total it was seven weeks. All the money I'd saved from the temp job had gone on living in that period,so I was no better off working, I may as well have not gone to work for the six weeks. Also,it has got me in to rent and council tax arrears which I'm still in. The best bit is when you first make your claim and go in to the Jobcentre to meet your advisor and they give you a hard sell on UC and how great it is. I love their motto: "Making work pay" it doesn't on temp jobs,it just gets you in to debt and trouble. This has been devised to save the government vast amounts of money. It is not there help you,and if you think it is then you're deluded.

Having to resort to food banks like I have is soul destroying. I feel helpless and angry with the way I'm being treated. The Conservatives are very proud of the fact that more people than ever are in work, why? because they are failing Employment Support Allowance work assessments for people with mental health conditions. I have chronic back pain and a mental disability and I scored a 0 out of 12 forcing me to apply for Jobseeker's Allowance, hence forcing me into work whether I'm fit for work or not. It looks like if you want to loose weight - go for universal credit! Ian Duncan Smith has also gone after the disabled by setting targets in assessing PIP payments. In the West Country where I live, in hearing appeals for PIP refusals, the independent commissions overturn 70% to 80% of decisions. In other words, PIP assessments (when PIP is refused) are wrong 70% to 80%. This is either gross incompetence or deliberate attempts to abandon the disabled.

Hi gbjanuary - thank you for this information, very much appreciated. My back will never get better. If anything it will just get worse as I have spinal stenosis, spondulosis, a problem with the sacroilitic joint, facet joints, disc degeneration, nerve damage, a fractured coccyx and my spine is beginning to crumble. As for my feet/ankles, both arches have collapsed, I have a problem with ligaments/tendons, mortons neuroma, unstable ankles that need pinning and both feet/ankles literally crack when I put any weight on them to walk. I have just recently had to have a pedobarography (pressure test) and I get the results for that next month. This test then determines what the consultant/surgeon would need to do if he definitely gives the go ahead for the surgery to be conducted. I am in absolute agony to say the least. My back is one thing but my blumming feet/ankles are really something else. Its such an acute and complex case and in some ways despite me having a whole host of things wrong with my back, my feet/ankles have not helped my back over the years either. I have been battling my back for 6 years desperately trying to get taken seriously and I have just recently had surgery and have a follow up appointment next month. When the consultant is happy with things I will then be put onto another waiting list to have the second procedure done as they cant do the 2 procedures at once because I can end up being paralysed. Regarding my feet/ankles, if the surgery is definitely agreed the consultant is quite hopeful that the operation will be quite effective which is good to know lol. Do you know how I would go about requesting a quicker hearing priority. Do I have to contact the DWP or can the info be found on google. I really am at my wits end with it all. I have my work coach repeatedly ringing and emailing me and dragging me in for pointless face to face appointments to go over the same stuff and its the financial side of things as well that's really stressing me out because as we all know UC is enough to stress anyone out whether you are ill, disabled or have fallen on hard times due to redundancy and stuff like that. I really am pleased that I logged onto youtube and other social media sites because people are sharing their personal experiences of how UC is affecting them and I have also got quite a few other links such as welfare rights and stuff like. :)

gbjanuary - precisely. How can so many tribunal appeals be cost effective. The system is now specifically designed to fail every one. I had my ESA stopped and I lost just over £50 each week since I was forced onto this Universal Credit. I have major medical problems and reams of consultant reports, a letter from my GP, I can barely walk yet I failed the work capability assessment and the decision makers for the DWP have still declared me fit for work and have rejected the Mandatory Reconsideration to over turn their decision. I have now filed the forms for the tribunal hearing which ive been told can take anything up to 2 years if not longer with no guarantee that I will even win my case. Its disgusting and who in their right mind would opt to apply for benefits when they could earn a full time salary. Universal Credit has created abject poverty, homelessness, addiction, a surge in people having to rely on food banks and suicide. You just cant afford to become ill, disabled or unemployed because the government wont look after you. They can always  find the money for foreign aid etc, etc.  Yes, the welfare system did need addressing because we had so many people that had been sat on benefits for years who were more than capable of working but chose not to and its those that should be targeted not the vulnerable members of society such as the long term sick, disabled and people that have fallen on hard times through no fault of their own. When will this conservative government get the message that austerity just isn't working and nor is Universal Credit. Its supposed to be the 21st century or crying out loud

For everybody wondering why this is allowed to continue in light of the suicides, it's simple = eugenics.

Yes, they are. You are blind if you cannot see that. This is all part of 'Agenda 21'. Research that.

The tories are a conspiracy. A mass of greedy, patronising people who would nt know poverty if they went home and found it in bed with there partners

This just makes me feel depressed and sad in itself. People dying or getting into debt just because a payment not coming is horrible. What a government; we need to end it as soon as possible and keep them out of power for as long as possible.

If two identical people claim for the first time Universal Credit simultaneously but one of them got his wage paid in full before the claim while the other got his wage paid after the claim then they are awarded different amounts of Universal Credit. One gets big deductions, the other one gets the entire amount.

Doubtin Thomas You have a time -limited right to claim one, but it can be refused if you don't fit the criteria, and you can only claim one once. So if it takes longer than you estimated to get your UC, and you run out of money, tough. You have to make an application to the Social Fund for an emergency payment. The system is underfunded and understaffed. Also, cuts to local authority grants have reduced payments to the CAB and other sources of advice, and they are all stretched to the limit. That's why food banks exist because the system isn't working.
