If it can be proven that what was done was illegal. Trump's actions are framed in a certain way to support the claim that he did something illegal. The problem is, they can't prove it, because there's no evidence. A month ago i predicted how the impeachment proceedings will end: the house will throw their hands in the air, give up, and save face by saying "well the corrupt GOP controls the senate, and they won't approve of impeachment anyway" and "elections are coming up, let the people decide". Well guess what they're saying now. This whole farce always ever served one purpose. To give the dems something to dangle over Trump's head come 2020, to distract their voters from the fact that they're fundamentally unelectable.

I think I understand Nunes angle. The questions Nunes asked Vindman and Hill clearly try to determine the identity of the whistleblower. Their whole strategy, thus far, has been character assassination, so not knowing the whistleblower's identity prevents that avenue of attack. Without that, they merely have to acquiesce that they are a reputable individual cleared by the White House in the intelligence community. That doesn't work for the Republican narrative and it makes it more difficult for them. It's simultaneously hilarious to watch him flounder but horrifying to see the casualness with which he breaks that protection.

These career foreign services witnesses embody the American "way" in our ideals and goals and their non-partisan, professional and clear recitation of the facts in their possession is stunning. As a veteran from a family of veterans, I like to think I am strong and would do the same, but as much as I love this country and my people... I am completely humbled and I don't know if I could do what they are doing. I hope I would have the character, courage, faith and clear love of America and it's promise, to do so. I took an oath to do so.
